Maoist rebels fighting to overthrow Nepal's monarchy kidnapped and killed a reporter for state-run radio who was accused of supporting the government. On 8 November, Maoist fighters severely beat up Rekhraj Dahal, a reporter for the daily Prateek, published in Birgunj, at Hatpate, in Sindhuli. On 30 August, journalist Siddharaj Rai was physically attacked, reportedly by members of the Young Communist League (YCL). nts. A member of the YCL, Arun Kumar Gohit, issued a death threat against Rajesh Jha, a Saptari District-based correspondent of the National News Agency. Members of the Youth Force, affiliated with the Communist Party of Nepal - United Marxists and Leninists (CPN-UML), seized approximately 500 copies of The Kathmandu Post (TKP) and the Kantipur Daily. The YCL threatened journalist Ramesh Chandra Adhikari for collecting information about their group, which led to the publication of articles on the Youth Force and other groups illegally collecting taxes in the Dhankuta region. Cadres of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MFJ) vandalized the office and motorbike of the Praktik Daily. The armed groups of the Terai National Liberation Army (TNLA) attacked Ganesh Kharel, editor and publisher of Janasaugat Weekly. Journalist (FNJ), complained that, for over a week, he received continuous threats and the Terai National Liberation Front (TNLF) also pose an increasing threat to journalists and media outlets based in the Dhanusha region. YCL Threat to Kantipur Journalist: Hari Bahadur Thapa, Chief Reporter at Kantipur, nation’s largest and most influential newspaper. Cadres of Maoist aligned Young Communist League (YCL) on Tuesday attempted to abduct Dristi Weekly's journalist Madhav Basnet from his office and even threatened to kill him. Bhim Lal Shrestha, photo journalist, Gorkha was repeatedly harassed and intimidated while shooting election-related brawls between cadres of
political parties in Gorkha by the Maoists. Damodar Neupane, reporter, Kantipur daily, was frequently intimidated and harassed over phone and in person by the Members of CPN (Maoist). Prakash Kumar Adhikari, reporter, Kantipur daily was intimidated along with several other journalists while covering post-election situation in Nuwakot by activists of CPN Maoist. Siddharaj Rai, journalist as well as member of Press Chautari Nepal (an association of journalists) was attacked by YCL men in Dhankuta while the reason for the attack is yet to be known, the victim journalist is said to have been injured in head and hand. Kantipur Publications warned not to criticize Maoists and their party. Warned of “dire consequences” if ignored. Warning to all other media too, to note this reference by Maoist chairman Prachanda.



These are only few of the thousands of threats made to reporters and journalists by these communist dictators. They want to silence anyone who talks or writes against them.
